15/May - 21/May - 2017

Auchentoshan - Oban | Arran | Fallkirk Wheel - Kingsbarns

On our way to the ferry we made another small stop to stretch our legs and admire the Scottish views.
We got to the port of Claonaig with time to spare. The ferry would take us to Lochranza on the Isle of Arran.

Arran Distillery
18th of May 2017

After we arrived on the Ilse of Arran we first made a small trip over the Island to find a place ot have lunch before heading to the hotel. Practice makes perfect. So after a quick check in we took on the 20 min walk to the Distillery..

After reporting to the reception we had some time to enjoy the very nice weather and make the obligatory pictures.

Then it was off to a small screening room and a short introduction of the Distillery. Then you enter the distillery which (a little bit like The Teeling Distillery) is situated in one big area. At the entrance you will find the mill and core ingredients to make Whisky

And then on the other side the four majestic Stills side by side creating the new spirit

As this is a relatively new distillery the computer has made its entrance to control the complete distilling process. And the always present and very shining Spirit Safe.

And then off to a small tasting bar for a small drink; a Whisky Liquor. For those who booked a more extensive tour like us we continued in a tasting room to taste some more whiskies with additional background to them.

As we were the four of us we could swap the glasses to get the most out of it.
So we first crossed paths with the 14 y/o & 10 y/o.
Next up the Port, Amarone, Madeira, Sauterness cask finishes.
Followed by my favorite of the day; The Bothy.
Closing off with the 18 yo and another favorite (but sold out) 12 y/o cask strength.
Last but not least the guide had a treat for us in the form of the Machrie moor and the Machrie moor cask strength.

After getting some souvenirs in the shop we walked back to the B&B for a meal and some finishing drams; Arran cognac finish & Arran danish 5 y/o peated. Another day well spend.
